BMW introduced the sixth-generation M5 for the 2018 model year. Based on the G30 5 Series, the F90 received significant chassis modifications from BMW M earning a different chassis designation compared to the standard car; a first in BMW M5 history. It's also the first M5 equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive. The system is rear-biased in its standard configuration to provide better traction without sacrificing handling, but it can be switched off to make the M5 fully rear-wheel drive.
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, rated at 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed M Sport automatic transmission and BMW’s M xDrive adjustable all-wheel drive system.
